“Engrossing. The sneak peek of Susan Dennard’s Witchshadow pummeled my emotions. I need the rest of this book.”

The Story
From the Publisher: Tor Teen
War has come to the Witchlands . . . and nothing will be the same again.
Iseult has found her heartsister Safi at last, but their reunion is brief. For Iseult to stay alive, she must flee Cartorra while Safi remains. And though Iseult has plans to save her friend, they will require her to summon magic more dangerous than anything she has ever faced before.
Meanwhile, the Bloodwitch Aeduan is beset by forces he cannot understand. And Vivia—rightful queen of Nubrevna—finds herself without a crown or home.
As villains from legend reawaken across the Witchlands, only the mythical Cahr Awen can stop the gathering war. Iseult could embrace this power and heal the land, but first she must choose on which side of the shadows her destiny will lie.

Mini Review: Witchshadow
“Gods below, how had everything gone so thrice-damned wrong?”
Susan Dennard Witchshadow
I’m still trying to piece back together my emotions. I think I’m tormenting myself by doing this because now I only want to know how this book ends.
Susan Dennard from the opening page knows exactly how to captivate an audience. The world building, the spell-craft, the lore. It’s why Witchshadow is one of my most anticipated books of 2021. It has a myriad of characters over the series that we as readers have been rooting for and want their happy ending.
Further, readers will be pulled in by a strong current, with sharp claws and a very firm grip. As the hold tightens we are pummeled by the waves, our lungs burning, like a drowning person desperate for air. I’m still waiting to reach the surface.
As I said, I need the other chapters.
But friends, this isn’t the last book. And Dennard by no means makes this chapter of the story easy. None of these characters will get away unscathed and based on what I’ve read so far, there is a cost and a reckoning coming.
Action written into every page, suspense at what will happen to these characters by the end of the novel, and chapters I literally was screaming No!!!! & Yes!!!! & then No!!!
This is a summer read you don’t want to miss.
Be ready for the unexpected. Get prepared for your feelings to be run through the shredder. And maybe, perhaps… (fingers literally crossed) at the end of all of this we’ll get a glimmer of hope.
Happy Reading ̴ Cece
