If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

“An instant classic, If the Shoe Fits is a gratifying Cinderella retelling. A fresh approach that makes for an empowering and sweeter ending for a beloved character.”

The Story

After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion.

Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn’t expect? That she may just find inspiration-and love-in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn’t fit, maybe it’s time to design your own.

My Review: If the Shoe Fits

This was a book I could not put down.

Throughout the day I tried to find as much time during a busy day to soak up the words bouncing off the pages shaping the characters into people I would love to get to know (if they were only real).

Julie Murphy If The Shoe Fits is a delightfully fresh retelling of the fairytale Cinderella.  Where urphy Masterfully reshapes the story, like the fairy godmother, where we have a supportive family unit, stepmother, step-sisters, and half-tripplet younger siblings, and a body positive character who doesn’t fit the Hollywood stereotype of a Disney Princess, though is perfectly beautiful for stepping into those glass slippers.

Cindy is amazing.  She is comfortable in her own skin and a force to be reckoned with as she takes on the role of wooing Prince Charming.

The set-up is fantastic. From the very beginning to what follows chapter after chapter is certainly in a word: magical. Casually Queer, Murphy creates a world that encompasses all shapes, sizes, genders and non-gender characters and everything in between, making this feel more like a real story and not one of make believe.

A Few Last Thoughts

A perfect summer romantic comedy to round out the last weeks of summer, run, don’t walk to grab a copy of Julie M’s latest book, If the Shoe Fits.

Be ready to swoon, gasp, and have full belly laughs, which is a perfect mix for a romance novel.

Happy Reading ̴ Cece
