The Story

From the Publisher of What If It’s Us

New York TimesUSA Today, and Indie bestseller!

Critically acclaimed and bestselling authors Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera combine their talents in this smart, funny, heartfelt collaboration about two very different boys who can’t decide if the universe is pushing them together—or pulling them apart.

ARTHUR is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

BEN thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them . . . ?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t nail a first date even after three do-overs?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

What if it’s us?

Plus don’t miss Here’s to Us! Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera reunite to continue the story of Arthur and Ben, the boys readers first fell for in What If It’s Us.

My Review

Melt. My. Heart.

My internal dialogue is still screaming about how much of a delight this book truly is.

So let’s get to it:

I have to say friends, I’m glad What If It’s Us was one of my last reads of 2021 (always want to end on a high note) because it is seamlessly written and utterly captivating. Becky and Adam are my new favorite dynamic duo. This book feels like a gift that you want to hold tightly, and never let go.

What If It’s Us is an intellectual YA contemporary that takes all the things we love in YA, combining it all together into 480 pages of angst, pulled heart strings, hilarity, and so much more. It’s just good story telling.

Now, to my one, and only concern.

Since I read this book in 2021 there are a number of cringe moments with all the Harry Potter references. Now, to be fair, I know this book was written prior to JK Rowling’s transphobic remarks on Twitter, and that clearly, with the number of HP references in the book, the authors were fans. I get that. However, I just wanted to mention it.

Fingers crossed in Here’s to Us Ben and Arthur have moved on, and let that fandom go.

Otherwise, friends, get this book on your reading device, from your local bookstore, or library because it’s well worth the read.

Happy Reading ~ Cece

“I believe in love at first sight. Fate, the universe, all of it. But not how you’re thinking. I don’t mean it in the our souls were split and you’re my other half forever and ever sort of way. I just think you’re meant to meet some people. I think the universe nudges them into your path.”
